Celebrities and Pleasing God

Abba Pambo on being concerned with pleasing God.
I must admit that I tend to look askance at celebrities—when I think about them at all—and am often disgusted when I hear about their lives. But here’s a story about Abba Pambo that turns that view back onto me:
(When Abba Pambo saw an actress) he began to weep. Those who were present asked him the reason for his tears, and he said, ‘Two things make me weep: one, the loss of this woman; and the other, that I am not so concerned to please God as she is to please wicked men.’
So you might ask yourself: am I as concerned with God’s attention as celebrities are with the attention of others?
"As an Eastern Catholic (Melkite), I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your site. The music is beautiful and uplifting, and the messages are food for my soul. Though we are still separated, I still feel a deep love and affection for my Orthodox brothers and sisters. May our Blessed Lord reconcile us as one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church as a testimony to a world that is perishing and needs us! Thanks again!"
